Fiber Splice Case: Protecter and connector of optical connection

What is Fiber Splice Case?

Fiber Splice Case, also known as fiber optical splice closure (FOSC), is a key component used to protect the optical fiber splice point in optical communication system. It not only provides physical protection, but also helps maintain the stability and reliability of fiber optic systems.

The function of Fiber Splice Case

During the long-distance optical transmission, the transmission loss will increase because of the weight of cable itself and the long distance these factors. Then the Fiber Splice Case plays a connect point role between fiber cables to keep the transmission efficiency and stability. It offers a sealed environment to protect the optical connectors from these potential damages like water, dust or other physical damages.

Fiber Splice Case

The structure of Fiber Splice Case

1:Shell, is often made by HD plastic or metal, defend the affects from outside environment;

2:Splice tray, used to fix the spliced fibers;

3:Seal system, includes the sealing strips, covers and heat shrink system, ensuring that the inside of the case is isolated from the external environment;

4:Mounting kit, pole/wall/aerial type mounting kit to meet different requirements

Different type of Fiber Splice Case

1:Dome type, cylindrical structure and is suitable for aerial, direct burial, mostly used for pole mounting;

2:Horizontal type, flat column structure, commonly used for aerial and buried mounting;

3:Mechanical sealing type: seal the inports and outports through mechanical gland, it’s convenient to open and close repeatedly, but the sealing function is lower than heat shrink sealing type.

4:Heart shrink type, seal the inports and outports through heat shrink seal tube, sealing function is best but it’s inconvenient to open and seal repeatedly.

How to choose Fiber Splice Case?

1:Splice capacity, the smallest capacity of it could be 24F, but the largest capacity of could even be 864 cores. The capacity determines the size of Fiber Splice Case directly. So, confirm the fiber capacity you need first;

2:Applying environment, dome type case often used in wall/pole/buried mounting however horizontal type is used in aerial type usually;

3:The distribution terminals determine the quantity of outports directly, so confirm how many ports you need when you are choosing;

4:Sealing type, please refer the above different type of it and choose which sealing type you need.

Summary

Fiber Splice Case is key equipment in fiber optic communication networks, providing necessary protection and management for fiber optic connections. With the continuous development of fiber optic communication, they are also constantly innovating and improving to meet the demands of higher speed and wider application scenarios. Understanding the basic knowledge of Fiber Splice Case is crucial for engineers and network maintenance personnel, as it helps to better design, construct, and maintain fiber optic communication networks.
